The New California Wine

I recently picked up the book, The New California Wine  by Jon Bonné.

Bonné highlights the current trend of California wineries trying to out-do one other with overly strong, overly ripe wines.  What’s lost in the process is the elegance and nuance of our unique terroir.  What happened to truthfulness in winemaking?  What happened to drinkability?  What does California really taste like when restraint is used in the winemaking process?   Bonné attempts to answer these questions and more in his book.  He also discusses the sustainability and biodinamic processes catching on in California. Thankfully, a number of smaller wineries are going back to old world methods, but adjusting these methods to truly showcase what California can offer, and we are proud to be a part of  this movement!

If you are interested in how California wines came to be what they are, and where they are going in the future, check out Bonné’s book.  It is a very interesting read!

Purchase the book here.
